2018 Financial Update
November 19, 2018
Dear Christ Church Family,
It is hard to believe that there are only about six weeks left in 2018! Time really does fly by. The beginning of the holiday season causes me to reflect on what has happened over the prior year. At Christ Church, our ministry year has been especially rewarding.
In February, we brought Will Young onto the Christ Church staff as our Director of Community Life. Will has fit in seamlessly and continues to serve our congregation very well. In January 2019, Will is going to enroll at Covenant Seminary, taking online classes with a hope towards completing his degree in three years and then pursuing ordination to pastoral ministry.
On April 1, we set a new record for attendance on Easter Sunday with over 260 people in attendance. In June, we sent a mission team to Bolivia for the third consecutive year. Led by Richard and Ann Kelley, this team partnered with a local church in Oruro, Bolivia to assist in establishing two new church plants in nearby areas. We saw over 200 conversions during our four days of ministry there. In August we held our first ever free Sports Camp for the community. We held a basketball clinic and saw over 30 kids from the community attend, along with another 40 kids from Christ Church.
We continue to see strong participation in our essential ministries as a church: Community Groups, Mercy and Justice initiatives, Men’s and Women’s ministries, and Children’s ministries. Over 90% of all who call Christ Church home serve regularly in some capacity at our church. Friends, that is unheard of! And, on top of all of that, we are now in our second year of worshipping at Great Hearts on Sunday mornings, and we have seen the Lord show us favor there. We see new faces every week, new children born every month, and gospel fruit everywhere. Our church is healthy and growing. Praise the Lord.
With respect to our 2018 budget, we have also had an encouraging year. Our elders are very grateful for your consistent generosity as a church. Our budget this year is $400,000. Through November 11, we have received $342,000 in offerings. That is 15% more than we had received at this time in 2017. So, Christ Church is well positioned to reach our financial goals for the year. Nevertheless, our elders believe we can exceed our budgeted giving by a substantial margin during these final weeks of 2018. Any giving that we receive in excess of the budgeted amount will be placed into our Building Fund, which we hope to consistently grow in the coming years. As you might expect, the long-term planning process for a permanent facility is significant and complicated. We are in the beginning stages of that process - and your sacrificial giving now can help us move forward in significant ways.
Therefore, as this year comes to a close, I want to remind you how essential your financial contributions are. Please prayerfully consider what your year-end giving will be to ensure Christ Church can move forward into the future in a healthy position. The gospel of Jesus Christ is vibrant and active among us. The Holy Spirit is at work in our lives and in our community. God, our Father, is with us and his love can never fail. Let’s move forward in our mission together through sacrifice and service towards our city and for the glory of God. I am privileged and honored to lead you. Thank you for working alongside us to savor God’s grace, build God’s community, and join in God’s mission.
